If it is a high pitch squeal that ends when the motor speeds up I would say your belt is probably just old and needs changed. Those Taurus' had serpentine belts and got a lot of use running through several pulleys so it's not uncommon for them to go bad.

When a belt gets old it gets hard and doesn't grip very well causing it to slip, and that is where you get your noise from. When you speed up the motor it probably gets a little louder and then goes away correct? If not you may have other problems, but since you said it only squeals during idling most likely belt is your only problem. Well when you rev up the motor it causes the belt to slip even more, but makes it hot and sticky so it doesn't slip any more.

Oh, and another thing, I thought all of the components ran off of a single serpentine belt on those Taurus' but I may be wrong. If they do get it changed ASAP, the flat belts generally don't squeal long and will just break. If there is another belt though, a "V" belt will squeal for some time and not break. The difference between the two is one is wide and flat, has several grooves on the pulley's. The other is a skinny belt that only runs in one groove (this is a "V" belt). Another solution if it is a "V" belt would be to tighten whatever pulley it is on, sometimes that is all they need.
