It's really just the fusion of both.

Politics is about helping, protecting, and providing for people whereas Religion is about spirituality.

Except people try to fix problems that don't exist or force their own religious ideals on others. So each provides a vassal for the other, leading to atrocities like 'Suppreme Leader of Iran,' Hitler, Margaret Thatcher, religious extremists, and George W.

ya, but both are necessecary evils. actually, religion isn't really necessary anymore, but its been around to long to be gotten rid of any time soon.
