I believe that in Health Care is a basic right in an advanced society. I have no grand plan to pay for it..but I would be willing to pay my fair share.. Some people I know say..why do we have to pay for a family with 5 kids? or for people who abuse drugs? I also know of middle class families who could not afford heath insurance and were driven into bankruptsy.. This is not right.. What are your feelings?

Maybe I am using Universal in a too general way,,I do not mean socialized medicine but more of a lower cost (not free) insurance program. When I hear of premiums for a family of 4 aproaching $1000 a month while we are spending 300 billion in iraq and reducing educational opportunities at home..there is somtehing wrong with our priorities.

Yes, I do. The people who don't are mainly people who have had no problems in their lives. They are against all healthcare (those damn commies!) proposals until they find out that they themselves have cancer and can't afford the cure.

I don't think of health care as a univeral right. Right now every patient gives money into the system that helps develop drugs in the private system, which history has shown us is a much better innovator than the government. Every person that comes to use the "universal" system would be a hinderance on the system - taking money out instead of putting it in.
You mentioned you know about "the people with 5 kids, drug abusers, etc." but you offer no plan on why we need to help them along with the middle class families. Should it be a blanket "right" for everyone to have healthcare. What if you smoke, drink, snort coacaine, and sleep with prostitutes and I do none of those things. I can not see how giving the same coverage free to each case is fair or right at all.

Our Nation already has a system in place that exists outside of the established Private Practice. I think we should expand and increase the Military style system to offer training and a protected place of work for people who cannot get into or are tired of the Lawsuits in, the private Practice and Private Medical Schools!
The Military Hospitals would then handle Un-insured, illegals, and others that are currently wrecking the private Practice and making it so un-affordable!
The Thought of the Pregnant Illegal going into a Military Hospital is Priceless!

It doesn't work. If I am sick and need surgery I don't want to wait three months to find an open spot. I want my surgery tomorrow. You won't find that kind of service in any country with universal health care.

There ALREADY IS healthcare available to anyone in the USA who needs it. There are programs for the poor and for children to get low-cost and no-cost healthcare. Most of these are thru the individual states. There is also healthcare available to the uninsured. The problem is that many of the uninsured would rather pay for big screen tv's, cell phones, and vacations rather than healthcare.
For others, who truly fall through the cracks, for whom the choice is "do I pay for healthcare or gas & groceries," well you can thank scumbag lawyers like JOHN EDWARDS who defend frivolous and fraudulent lawsuits that make your preminums go up.
With all of that being said, to answer your question, no I do not support universal healthcare. I would have to work a second job just to pay my taxes while scumbag lawyers like JOHN EDWARDS stuff their wallets. I support investigating these fraudulent lawsuits by these ambulance-chasers, like, did I mention JOHN EDWARDS...what we need is Medical Liablity Reform. Medical liability reform would decrease healthcare costs, freeing up more money to make insurance more affordable. It would also increase access to healthcare, as fewer doctors would be forced out of the profession or away from high-risk specialties because of overwhelming malpractice insurance premiums.
Yes, I want to help the poor, but some of you "bleeding hearts" need to realize what's causing the problem.
Hope this answers your question.

i can see both sides of this coin. it could get expensive to pay for universal health care. the majority of the cost will fall on middle to upper class people. this isn't fair to them because they aren't the majority. plus everyone who is a citizen will end up paying for the illegal population which is getting out of hand.
on the other hand, it's expensive for me to pay my premiums when i am trying to raise two children on my own. my ex husband helps with child support but it's still hard. universal health care may also help put a cap on the ever rising costs of doctors and prescriptions.

Yes and I think the government should also take over the drug industry. They go hand in hand as to why medical care has gotten so out of control.

absolutely, anyone who sais universal healthcare is wrong is a heartless, capitolist pig. Everyone should have the ability to recieve quality medical care. Yes, i want to help pay for the poor family of five with no insurance because they cant afford it, because i care about people, and not just my wallet.

No. The solution is not to create another government bureaucracy to suck the life out of the American taxpayers.
If you want to address the problem, deal with the insane lawsuits that make healthcare so expensive.

Yes, provided every legal resident & citizen gets the same high quality health care. It could be paid by our taxes instead of wasting the money on a no-win war that is none of our business.
