From a young age I loved to read, books such as Dr. Seuss for example. But, when I was in 4th grade I really got interested in books....the first one I can remember was "A Doll In The Garden", and others were books by Madeleine L'Engle (i.e. A Wrinkle In Time, A Swiftly Moving Planet...), The Giver (about a Utopian society), Treasure Island, diaries (for example, the diary of Anastasia, of a young girl on the Titanic...), and quite a few more.
What were your favorite books when you were young?

when i was a little kid i never really got into reading that much because i struggled with it so much that it just frustrated me. when I was about 12 years old my sister brought home the scholastic book fair thing (before they held them at the school) and my mom told me to look through and see if there was anything that interested me. i found a book called My Teacher Fried My Brain by bruce coville and it sounded interesting so my mom got it for me. that got me to start reading but after a few years i sort of lost interest and didn't do it as often. then a couple years ago my mom introduced me to Harry Potter and i got hooked on reading once again.
my favorite books though when i was younger were the ones written by bruce coville and chris crutcher.

Your question brings back such pleasant memories. The first 'proper' book I read was 'Five go off in a caravan' by Enid Blyton.Till then I had read only comics. My mom bought it for me.I complained the whole way home that it was for 'big girls'.Once I started reading it though,I didn't put it down till the last page.

My first longer books probably came around third or fourth grade as well. I loved the baby-sitters club books, a book called "Lyddie", and all of the books about a little boy named "Fudge" and his older brother Peter. I know I read and loved more than that, but I can't remember what all of them were right off.

Reading the book instead of viewing the movie is the best way to see what the writer planned. Reading uses your thoughts, hones your reading skills, and can increase your vocabulary

i learned english when i moved to America when i was five, and i loved reading for ever. i read about 250 books every school year, it was crazzzy. i loved the Betsy and Tracy books, Little Women, Anne of Green Gables series... i read all of them in first grade. my favorite book to this day, though, is Gone With the Wind (hence my "name" Scarlett), which i first read in fourth grade.
