Back labor is when you feel your contractions in your back instead of in the front in your abdomen. It feels like someone really heavy is sitting on your back and bouncing. You feel it in your lower back and it comes and goes like contractions.

I had back labor with my first child, but not my second.

Back labor, the best I remember, feels like someone is beating you across the back with a baseball bat or something. I could barely lay down for exams and had to be sedated in the delivery room because I couldn't lay on the table because of the pain. After my daughter was born my doctor told me that he had never seen anyone in his life that couldn't lay down when they were in labor and he was kind of old then, lol. It's terrible and I would recommend an epidural if possible, which wasn't available when I had my children. Congrats and good luck.

Back labor refers to labor in which much of the pain or discomfort is felt in the mother's back. Sometimes, the baby is in a posterior position (facing the mother's abdomen).

With back labor, the onset of labor may be felt completely in your back and may create some confusion about whether labor has really begun. Feeling your abdomen for "hardening or tightening" when experiencing rhythmic back discomfort may offer some indication as to whether or not this is really labor.

Between contractions. The pushing stage may be longer due to the extra effort needed to rotate the baby to an anterior position (face towards mother's back). Some babies may not rotate and may deliver in the posterior position.

Just FYI, and epidural usually doesn't work when you're having back labor, at least it didn't with me.

To me it meant that most of my labor pains were low down in my back. Felt like my hips were falling off. Mind you , I only had this happen with my 3rd. (& last) & she was triple breech (bottom & both feet at the same time). I had heard other women describe it & there had been nothing wrong with their babies. Each & every pregnancy is different with each & every woman so what happens to one doesn't mean it will happen to another. Good Luck

I think its probably like the dull low back pain you get throughout your pregnancy, x 100. I'm 35 weeks with my 1st and obviously haven't been through labor yet, but this is what I hear from other women who have.
No not all women get it. Its caused by your baby being in a posterior postion, with the back of his head resting on your lower spine.

A dull pain in the back that eventually wraps around to your belly feeling like menstrul cramps. Both of which will intensify.

Women who have back labor is due to how the baby is positioned in utero.

If you mean back to back, it is when your babys back is facing your back, apparently the labor is more painful than normal. The baby will normally turn.

But couldn't help on the pain front as only had one labour and that was back to back. Yes it hurt, (don't want to scare you) but labor does !!

during labor, sometimes the baby can press up against the back of your pelvis and cause really bad back pain.
