I have just watched a video about child abuse and I find child abuse to be quite revolting. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OeW7LVx8tDw

There are many adults in the world who take great satisfaction from abusing children sexually or otherwise.

Some people abuse children and claim it's okay because it's just part of their culture, their way of life.

Some people believe in isolationism, the belief that if other people in other countries do something different then you have to respect that because it's just their culture.

Don't you think that ethically speaking, isolationism is cruel? If child abuse occurs in international waters or another area, don't you think it's right to intervene?

If a family moved out from America in their yacht and lived in international waters so they could sexually abuse their children without legal intervention, do you think it is ethically right to intervene to save the children?

I think it's right to do what ever it takes to protect a child. Children are so innocent! I don't even want to think about the fact that as I am typing this very second, there are big numbers of children being abused right now! I don't think I would be out of line to say no matter what a person's culture, that if they abuse a child in ANY way, they should be put to death. There are so many people who think it is not their business when a child is being abused. That's wrong! If the caregiver of that child, whether it is the parent, grandparent, anyone is abusing them, then society needs to take a stand and do something about it!!!!!

Holy ****, what a question!! Your last question is such a calculating, extreme scenerio, kind of a bizarre way to think...anyway child abuse/sexual abuse/neglect is my field, I'm a social worker.

Let me say that most sexual abusers/perpetrators were molested themselves as a child, and they don't typically think so hard about ways to continue the abuse without being caught or legally punished, they just do it (if you know what I mean). There is a strong need for the abuser to remain in power and control, and moving to a yacht in international waters seems like too much trouble for most abusers to deal with.

A lot of physical abusers have substance abuse problems as well, and many are uneducated. Such calculating moves as you suggested are most likely out of the abusers realm (ie financially, educationally etc.)

yes i believe in isolationism, you say abuse, they say normal. do i think abuse is wrong, yes. does that mean people in some far off country that have been raised for generations that something isnt wrong should be punished, no. look at cannibalism, weve been raised to think its a horrible sin, some cultures do not, but its not our job to tell them, maybe we do things they think are wrong, should they be able to intervene against our beliefs??? no. It would be wrong for them to force us against our beliefs, so its just as wrong for us.
