OK, this is for people who have read the books and know their stuff. My sister thinks I'm fixated on this particular detail (and maybe she's right! lol) but... There is a short bit in GOF that intrigues me and I'm convince it will pop up again in Book 7.
When Harry first discovers the pensieve, at one point Bertha Jorkins appears and says she was jinxed by someone because she followed him and saw him kissing "Florence" behind the greenhouse. Dumbledore says "sadly", "Why did you follow him in the first place?" I am convinced an important revelation will come of this seemingly unimportant bit. Otherwise, why would it still be in the pensieve and why would Dumbledore deem this memory so important to the point of preserving it in the pensieve in the first place?
Did anyone else pick this up - or am I a lone lunatic??
C'mon guys, theres still a long time before Book 7 is released. Might as well bide our time... Wanna play? :o)

I do have a theory on this, which I will reveal when I choose BA, but am interested in other people's ideas too.

OK, here's my theory. Please remember that the Bertha that appears from the pensieve is described as "a girl about 16 years old", so the memory is about Berth when she was in Hogswarts as a student. This means to me that she followed a fellow student. I am thinking that the person she saw kissing "Florence" was Snape. Assuming the person is someone we know, it wouldn't be James because we know he was in love with Lily. I doubt it was Sirius, and Lupin is too kind to jinx a fellow student. J.K. Rowling says in her famous interview with Melissa (The Leaky Cauldron) and Emerson (Mugglenet) that Snape was once loved by someone. And I think that this Florence has something to do with why Snape quit being a Deatheater shortly before the Potters' deaths.
OK, I might be totally off and my sister could be right that I'm fixed on the Florence memory - but wow! I can savour the satisfaction if I'm anywhere near right!! lol And besides, it's so much fun to try and connect the clues!!

I def. know my stuff lol I am a Harry Potter lunatic.

I actually do find that very interesting, but maybe Dumbledore was organizing this memory since the disapperance of Bertha Jorkins to find out if Voldemort possibly was the one that find out info about the ministry from Bertha. He was so into finding out the deal with Bertha that he started analyzing her to find out about her. I dont think we'll know for awhile, lets wait and see.

But indeed a lot of rumors or theories that ppl have will most likely get answered; you know things like whats so important about Harry having lily's eyes or why only certain ppl become ghosts. Its very interesting. I would def. enjoy hearing more theories.

Lately there has been a lot of talk going on if whether or not Harry is a horcrux and what are Snape's intentions. Its very interesitng actually...

I'm going to get my sister to answer this question of yours because she is the biggest Harry Potter buff in this house. She's regularly on this chat room called the Leaky Lounge so I'm sure she'll have an interesting story for you. Anyway, here she is with her answer:

I'm sure you're right about Bertha Jorkins. From what we've been discussing in the Leaky Lounge, if you're interested in joining in the discussions about Harry Potter in there just follow the link I'll add below, it's quite possible that there could be some significance there. Dumbledore doesn't keep his memories in the pensieve unless they are "important" clues to something that lies ahead. Keeping this in mind Bertha could have very well been Jinxed to follow him. It's also quite possible that JK Rowling is showing something in the area of the greenhouse that could be significant.

I'm sure you're right that there could be something up here with Bertha and it could very well show up again in Deathly Hallows.

If you are interested in discussing possible theories about book 7 that's appearing in the other books there's a section at the Leaky Lounge that's discussing just that. The web page address for Leaky Lounge is http://www.leakylounge.com It's completely free and tonnes of fun. We have interesting discussions in the lounge.

Hope that helps.

No, you're not a lunatic. For awhile, I went on and on about this one little detail from the third book, when Harry would pass out from the dementors and hear his mother's voice before she died. Did you notice that Voldemort told her to stand aside when he wanted to get to Harry? Why didn't he just kill her right there to get her out of the way?

Anyway, I had never thought about that piece of information until you pointed it out. We know that Bertha is a bit of a gossip and is kind of nosy, so the fact that she followed someone isn't really that strange. I think when Dumbledore says sadly "Why did you follow him in the first place?" He's not referring to the incident that happened at that moment in the past but to why she followed a man that everyone had accepted as dead for over 13yrs. Also, possibly on her character as a person, that he was saddened she had no self control, that she never learned any better, and that part of her had been taken advantage of.

I'll say again, you're not a lunatic because as all Harry Potter fans know, Rowling tends to make what seems like insignificant details rather important later on. I can't wait to see what your theory is on it :]
