Loretta Lynn's eldest son, described in the country singer's autobiography as ''the one I feel most sentimental about,'' drowned trying to ford the Duck River on horseback, the authorities said today.
The body of Jack Benny Lynn, 34 years, was recovered Tuesday from the river near here.
The horse was found unharmed but trapped along a steep bank near the spot where the body was recovered.
Ken Riley, a spokesman for Miss Lynn, said the singer was informed today of her son's death.
Mr. Lynn had worked most recently shoeing horses. The area of the river where the body was found is about three miles from where Mr. Lynn lived with his wife, Barbara.
''We started searching as soon as we were notified,'' said Chief Deputy Bobby Choate. ''He had to cross the river to get to where he was going, so that's the first place we looked.''
