Yes, you can, BUT should you? Quite a lot of societies problems stem from successfully covered up mistakes, called "Cover Ups". On a personal level, wouldn't it be better to be who and what you are, rather than eventually having to take off your mask and severely disappointing those who believed lies? (or worse, believing your own lies?).When you are painting a wall, covering up your mistakes doesn't really hurt anyone, unless you count the person who believed you did perfectly the first time, thus proving they are inadequate when they mess up.

Everyone makes them, no matter how hard you try not to, it is best to admit you are human and have erred and face the fact you are one of many hundred million people and also learn from your mistakes!

I believe it's called lying, so in my case, I am capable of covering up my own mistakes, but my self-esteem needs to be fed all it can get. Not my pride---------my Self-Esteem. Good Luck!! (Good question) ( More!!) @8-)

I don't try to. I just admit them, fix them and move on. Covering them over just makes things worse usually.
