I believe Freud said that all humans are naturally driven to aggression and self-destruction. Perhaps its the stimulatory nature of our own self-will.

Humans hurt themselves because they differ from animals. They have a mind, and at the same time are mindless.
Humans have minds which requires reasoning skill to differentiate between reality and imagination.
Humans have egos and at the same time false egos which can interfere with the reality of things.
Humans are the only ones who can self destruct.

Because they do what is attractive in the moment. They don't think about what really makes sense in the long run. Plus, beings that we're our own worst enemies, we wouldn't be able to have any problem to fix!

Because they don't love themselves enough. IMHO
I believe that if we loved ourselves more, we would harm ourselves much less.
I also believe in loving ourselves more, we could better love others.
If we are to treat our neighbor as ourself, then I truly believe it would be vanity if we did not truly love ourselves first.
How can one love someone else like they should themselves, if they are always hurting themselves?
A GREAT question!

I know there were a lot of times in my life that I didn't know what I was doing. I hurt myself because I didn't know how to love myself.
