to put the fraction in simplest form you divide by the greatest common factor between the numerator and the denominator. Or you could do it the easier way and divide by 7 which gives you -6/10 and then divide by 2 to get -3/5. Your greatest common factor is 14 so you divide by 14.

-42/70 = -6/10(divided by 7) = -3/5(divided by 2)

-3/5...this pretty much explains why kids need MORE school..not less. ugh. lowest common denominators kiddo...which is 14 by the way..or even if u dont know those multiples u should know that both of those numbers go into 7...which gives u -6/10...both go into 2..(which is why the lowest one is actually 14 since 7x2 is 14) so.... -3/5. shouldnt have to use a calculator for that.contrary to a previous answer.

the above answers are correct, but i will tell you the best way to do it.

find a number that both numbers are divided by, for instance both are divisible by 2, so you divide both numbers by 2, getting -21/35. Since this is still not in lowest terms, you must divide again, this time I'll chose 7. When both are divided by 7, you get -3/5

hope that helped!
