London Zoo runs a Friendly Spider program throughout the year for people with arachnophobia. They get you to talk about your fear, and then there is a calming session done by a hypnotherapist. You are then shown how to remove a house spider from your home without killing it, and then, if you're feeling brave, you can have a souvenir photo taken with one of their tarantulas.
Its a great program, and it cures over 90% of people who go on it.

When I was a teen, I had one in my hair!!! Since then my phobia of spiders was no more!!! I never kill them. I have heard that it is bad luck. I think there is a rhyme that says:
If you want to live and thrive,
Keep a Spider alive.

The only cure I've ever heard of for phobias is CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). Which isn't a lot of fun from what I've heard.

i become frightened of them... now i'm purely reasonably uncomfortable. next time you spot a spider, contact it with your finger. previously lengthy, you hit upon you'll both take care of to stay harmoniously with the sensible, fly-killing little buggers (they're in substantial member of our surroundings) or a minimum of have the braveness to squash one to lack of life with a shoe.

Just think to yourself how much smaller they are then you and that even if one does bite you, the most that will happen is that you'll have a sore for awhile.
