In 2000, the ITF (International Tennis Federation) introduced the "Type 3" ball which was 6% larger, but weighed the same as a standard ball.
The Type 3 balls are used on "Type 3" courts (fast pace surfaces) to slow the game down.

The game has become so dominated by power recently that they basically had to slow the courts down some to keep matches interesting. Back when the game was more about touch and placement, the fast courts threw in an interesting dynamic. Now, that dynamic would just make the slugfest of modern tennis even worse. I do think it's a shame that the grass courts had to be slowed down so much, but it was pretty much necessary.

Todays players are better and stronger than ever. Tennis balls haven`t changed since 1972 when they went to "optical yellow" so the ball could be seen better. The ball has about 2x atmospheric pressure inside. Roger Federer is the most dominant player in ANY kind of sport.

Interesting. Well I guess that its possible, I mean in mens tennis you have big serves and big forehands, so that kinda makes the points more dull, so maybe their tryin to make it more itneresting or somtihing. also all of these new rackets are allowing more power with less energy, so I dont know.

no idea...but andy murray did take some time off to have the dignity of having someone's elbow in his back end cuz he really really needed a physio to help him with his injuries during his match during wimbledon...but i still think that the longer the matches...the better for value is for the ticket...u get to watch longer play, sit there for longer, admire the players for longer and of course...it gets amazingly tense when it goes on for a long rally (people go "ooo...he's gonna mis....=O he didnt! wow!" and so on)...so its pretty fun! enjoy it!

they haven't changed the tennis balls in a long time so that can't be the answer. They are just playing differently.
