Check how much memory you have - If less than 512Mb - add more.
That is the usual cause for a machine running slow.

There are a few possibilities
Your internet connection is slow - get broadband at a decent speed at least 2Mb
Your computer is slow booting up in which case remove as may programs as possible from the startup folder
Your computer may have a virus in which case you should run an antivirus scan and find out how to remove any problems found.
Your computer may be struggling for space on hard drive in which case you should remove some files and save to disc if still required
If laptop is old - more than 3 years then it may be struggling to run the new software and therefore running slowly - cash required sorry

try doing a defrag, and also you might try adding more ram to it. erase programs and files that you dont use on a regular basis
