The American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Drugs classifies alcohol (ethanol) as a “Maternal Medication Usually Compatible With Breastfeeding.”
It is simply recommended that nursing moms avoid breastfeeding during and for 2-3 hours after drinking (Hale 2002).
There is NO NEED to "pump and dump" your milk after drinking. Alcohol leaves your milk in the same way it leaves your blood. The ONLY reason to pump after drinking would be if you become uncomfortably engorged.
Also, a great general rule of thumb is "if your head is clear, your milk is too." If you feel sober enough to drive then you are sober enough to nurse. Less than 2% of the alcohol consumed by the mother reaches her blood and milk.

Yes, if you only have 1 drink. You might want to consider pumping some milk before the party so you won't have to worry about any alcohol going to the baby. Have a great party!

They say its ok to have the odd one while you b/f but to be honest i would avoid it as alcohol is passed on to baby through your milk, I'm sure if it is just the one it wouldn't do any harm but everyone has there own opinion on drinking while b/f.
hope your party goes well, oh have you considered expressing before you have a drink?

I've done it, and I would do it again. I believe that breast milk with a faint trace of alcohol is better than formula. According to Dr Sears, "The occasional glass of wine with a special dinner should not be a problem." Kudos for breastfeeding, and have a good time!

yes, you can. the best time to drink is right after you have just fed the baby. that way the alcohol has time to leave your system. 1 12oz beer, a 5 oz glass of wine, or a mixed drink that contain 1 oz of hard liquor contain the same amount of alcohol and take 1 hour to leave the body.

My neighbor had a drink and then breast fed her baby. The kid slept for 10 hours, lol. Seriously, it should be okay if u have one or two, but pumping first is a good idea.

Pump first and save it. Don't give him or her any breast milk after you had your drinks for at least 3 or 4 hours, depending on how much you've had to drink.
