Hercules had to perform 12 labors (that's in Greek mythology). I don't know if he drove his mother crazy, though, and I don't know his Roman name, but I'm pretty sure it's Hercules you're talking about.

although hercules was forced to go the the mortal world, he was raised in the mortal world. So, there really isn't any way his mother could have drove him insane if he wasn't old enough to go crazy.
Straight answer: I don't think it's hercules according to your question

He was a demi-god actually, it was Hercules. My boy friend is really into mythology so wants to write a story about it I guess.
Hercules was the son of Jupiter and Alcmene. Angered at her husbands (multiple) affairs, Hera/Juno inflicted Hercules with a madness that caused him to murder his wife and children, and as punishment, Zeus/Jupiter gave him the twelve labors as penance. After completing the labors he was free to roam the world again, but was killed by his lover when she was given a means to keep him faithful. She was given a shirt soaked in blood that would not allow him to stray. In truth it was meant to kill him, and accomplished the task when he donned it.
