William Golding once said that the theme of Lord of the Flies is “an attempt to trace the defects of society back to the defects of human nature. The moral is that the shape of society must depend on the ethical nature of the individual and not on any political system however apparently logical or respectable…” How does he show this in the book? Do you agree? Why or who not?

Golding was a product of his Christian culture, a culture based on the morbid concepts of "original sin" and humans are fundamentally bad and weak. Within those concepts, a group of children stranded on an island without the controls of established law and order and Church would fall into their "natural" savagery. In truth, a group of children stranded on an island, per actual research, does not behave like savages but, instead, rise rather well and prove that humans do very well in the "goodness" department without law and church to "keep them in line".

lack of innocence is definitely a important topic in this e book. each and every of the characters represent this topic. yet another topic might want to be civilization vs. savagery or anarchy which lower back, all characters represent.
