i was looking online on how to look after outdoor rabbits during winter and i read that beacause there used to cold weather and they would hop around in the snow, it's o.k to let your rabbit out for a 30min run? is that true, i thought that you keep them in the hutch with hay? it may sound like a stupid question but i was just wondering. thanks!

Do not let it go. As a domestic rabbit used to being provided with food, it doesn't stand much chance in the wild when it meets a predator for the first time. When I used to have rabbits, we bought leashes and harnesses for them. Ones made for ferrets fit well. Then you can either walk your rabbit, or at least tie the leash to something so the rabbit can't go far. But NEVER go inside while your rabbit is tied to a tree. If a neighborhood cat or something found it, it would have no way of running away. I agree it's nice to not keep him in a hutch all the time. Otherwise, if you can buy some sort of cheap wire fencing and place it in a circle, so your bunny can run around inside. Of course, you need to make sure the holes are too small to squeeze through and it is fastened firmly to the ground. Still, I would never reccommend letting him run around outside when you are not around.

as long as the hutch is open for them to go back when they want you could let rabbits out all day if you wished, You must remember that all the animals we have , have been bred from wild animals and as such dont mind the cold like we do. Make sure you have plenty of bedding in the hutch so they can make a little nest and keep warm, and you have wire mesh at the front try to cover it so the dont get cold winds and snow blowing in. Anything will do like polythene etc..

Rabbits are fine to be let outside, they need at least 2 hours exercise every day out of their hutch so its cool to let them out in the snow. If the run is attached to the hutch, make sure they can get back in with no problems, but if its free standing, then clear away some of the snow from one corner and put a thick bed of hay there. if they spend all their time in the corner then you know they dont like the snow!! But if they hop around and seem happy and at ease then let them get on with it. Just be sure they have shelter in the run, fresh water, and they also need to be supervised while in the run at all times in case of danger or they hurt themselves. My rabbit loves being out in all weathers and refuses to come in til hes had what he wants to eat, the pig! Hope your rabbits have fun!

I have two large french lop bunnies. They live in the house but they have a free run of the garden everyday when I am at home. It is ok to let them out in the snow however if it is too cold for them they might not want to go out.
If possible give them the option to go out but don't make them. I just open the back door (they live in the kitchen) and if they want to go out they can.
Make sure they have plenty of hay in their hutch to keep them warm.
Bunnies love lots of attnetion so if it is to cold to play with them outside you could always bring them in the house for half an hour.

Kammy, there's no such thing as a stupid question, although, there are a lot of questions on here that are border line. As for as the rabbits in the snow, I think it's OK. When I was a kid, I had some pet rabbits and they stayed in a pen snow and all. I fixed a shelter in one corner for them to get in, they mostly remained in the open pen.

in all danger the wind blew away the tracks, in my view, i do no longer hunt rabbits contained in the snow, it rather is oftentimes their component, because of the fact snowshoe hares replace hues with the seasons, turning brown contained in the spring, summer and early fall, whilst turning white for the previous due fall and iciness months, they camouflage themselves too properly in the two, it rather is why I look ahead to a heat day contained in the iciness and look ahead to it to rain to soften each and all of the snow away, the rabbits are white on a brown-eco-friendly historic past, hassle-free objectives. for different species, I haven't any thought, in no way hunted different species different then snowshoes? i pass with what Dan B reported additionally. additionally, if your searching contained in the snow, god fore bid it, in case you are able to no longer detect an excellent objective on the animal's head, objective for the eyes or nostril, because of the fact they are the countless uncommon areas on the rabbit's physique that are no longer white right now of 300 and sixty 5 days and stand out like a sore thumb on them.

Keeping any animal or bird in a cage is cruel, let it out and it will go back in of its own accord when it wants to.
