I was trying to make money to buy a violin. I rode my bike over to a blueberry farm and got in line with Mexican migratory workers to work. I was really young and bashful and white had never been away from my mother very much. The Mexican ladies didn't speak any English, but, they gently showed me how to pick the berries and where to take the baskets to empty and such. All day, they looked after me. The work in those dewy berries and the quiet purrings from the women was lovely to me. It was utter peace and naturalness. My first period started and there were no bathroom facilities. I was too young to figure out what to do. Oh, so gently, a lady took me off into the bushes, a pair of clean pants appeared and a folded up cloth for a pad. I felt so normal and well-cared for. I emerged from the bushes and the ladies smiled at me, and told me to go back to work. Nice memory.

Well it is about my first period. Sort of. Once my mom had sat me down and explained how all this worked, it sounded like something truly amazing and rather special. I was so excited I some how expected my period to start that month.
So in true form I woke the next morning with a tunny ache and convinced myself that my period was starting, I made my mom buy me some sanitary towels. I wore them everyday for over a month. Much to my family’s amusement!
They only started two years later, and they are certainly not as special as they at first seemed.

When I first started my period I was twelve and I woke up one morning with cramps so when I went to the bathroom, I saw blood so I rushed to my parents' room and told my mom (with a lump in my throat; about to cry) that I had blood coming down and that my stomach was hurting. She said that I was starting my period had come and it was called a menstruation cycle and that I didn't have to participate in P.E. or gym if I told the coach this. I also remember her letting me stay home. I was also embarrassed because I didn't know if I was going to be able to handle it. It felt weird everytime it came down- the first blood clot was terrifying.

It was summer and I was riding my bike with my girlfriends in our neighborhood one afternoon. Everyone was looking at us so we guessed it was because we were pretty. When e got to my place, I told my friends my tummy really hurt so bad. When we got to the den, we watched tv and we copied some dance steps that we saw live. My little brother then shouted... BLOOD!!! while pointing at the area between my legs-- was wearing really short white shorts and white tank... Gosh was I terrified! There was indeed a huge blood stain there... I ran to the bathroom and cried for hours. Even shooed away my mom! Didnt know what was happening to me. I was so afraid. I was only 9.

Eh. I wasn't worried for some reason unlike most other women. Sure I was surprised. But I didn't feel like I should freak out though I was in the fourth grade and never seen or thought this could happen.

my mother never told me anything about a period or how to deal with it when i got. One day i went to the bathroom and when i wiped there was a ton of blood on the toilet paper, i go running out of the bathroom, scared to death and tell my mom i'm bleeding and what should i do. She just looks at me with absolutely no sympathy and says "just go put a pad in your drawers, and make sure your change often because i don't want to smell your ***". that's it.

I was 13, downtown in the shopping district with white pants on and with my father in the heat of one of the hottest July days, how else embarrassing can it get.

I first got mine in eighth grade when I was at home. I ran out of the bathroom and woke up my mom, who was napping on the couch, to tell her. She helped clean me up and then told my dad, who went out and bought me a cake.
