Every time i type in a web address in my browser it diverts it to www.internic.co.uk!! i have tried deleting all cookies, shutting down my laptop and rebooting, I can't get rid of it. Has anyone else had this problem? It may have come when I downloaded Real Player? Any suggestions? i have a MacBook OS X System and Firefox Browser. Thanks.

It seems to be associated with Real Player and BBC website. I put Real Player in the Trash, emptied the trash, deleted all cookies and rebooted. As i wanted to listen to the Radio, I typed in www.bbc.co.uk/radio and got the correct site. As soon as I clicked on Radio 4 it said i needed to load free Real Player. As soon as I clicked on the download site www.internic.co.uk took over again!!! If it is a transparent proxie how do I delete it on a Mac?

Still not resolved. On a PC you can go into Regedit and look for programmes that aren't supposed to be there. How do you do this on a Mac anyone??? How can I get into the OS to find out how sites are being diverted? I typed in www.tsl.org (The Summit Lighthouse) and got a web page on Family Trees! Does anyone else get this problem??

I don't have an accelorator plug in that I know of. At about the same time as clicking the link to real.com I went to Motzilla website to look at add-ons, I couldn't get to the download or anything to do with Firefox add-ons. Could it be that was the problem? If so, how do I fix my Mac? I checked internet settings for ADSL Cable and they seem OK. i did find a cert. from RSA Veri.. something that went to my family.com instead, so i disabled it. Problem still there though!
Thanks for your answers. In case i cannot extend the time on this any further, please email me : teleajuna@yahoo.com if you have any suggestions.

That's really weird. I'd say try using a proxy, I don't have any on me right now sorry but go to your local library and you'll be able to find some if you google "transparent proxy". If it was a Windows I'd be screaming spy ware but its a Mac so you'd have discovered the first spyware ever for Mac. For now try using Safari.

Somehow you are being 'diverted' to www.internic.co.uk ... this could normally only happen if the web address is not valid = so at a guess I would say (somehow) your system has decided that all addresses are invalid ... and this points to the Browser (and a mal-functioning plug-in)

If you have plug-ins like 'pop-up' stoppers or 'script control' this could be the cause .. but it seems most likely it's something to do with the 'Real Player' download .. do you have a 'download accelerator' plug-in ?

Finally, on a PC I would also look to see if somehow my TCP/IP settings - DNS or HOSTS file - had been corrupted ..

I don't have a solution but I have the same problem! It started suddenly yesterday, my homepage is www.bbc.co.uk/news and it keep trying to launch www.internic.co.uk. Some sites still work, however there are others that don't launch or try to redirect to internic. I haven't managed to find a pattern or reason why. I have run a virus scan and nothing.....i don't have real player on my machine. I am not a MAC user by the way.

Is it just your home page? Could you have a typo in the address, as people like internic pick up addresses like www.goggle.co.uk etc, and if you have a typo in the address of your home page, it could be redirecting to here.

Else you have spyware, which Apple claims can't happen. Don't tell me they are telling porkies!!
