My ex is taking our son on a cruise in February. He has his passport but, I've heard that he will need a statement from me granting permission for him to travel out of country with our son. Is this true? Does anyone have an example statement?

My son is 6 years old and we have joint custody of him. My ex husband is going on a family cruise with both his parents, brother, sister in law and nephews. I do trust him.

Yes it is true. I took my 13 year old brother to Tokyo and my parents had to sign an affidavit allowing me to take my brother out of the country.
You're going to need a signed affidavit by you, your husband and a notary public. You can type it up and just take it to a notray public.
For example:
I (your name) allow my husband (name) to take our son (name) to travel out of the country for the month of______. Only for the duration of__________ (specify the dates he is leaving and returning). Etc, etc.

I (your name, his name) hereby agree with the agreement forementioned above.
Your signature______________ Date
Husband signature_________ Date

Witness/notary public signature_______ Date

First of all how old is the child? What is the purpose of the cruise? Is it with another wife and family. Do you trust him? He may need many things to do this, all of which can be done with lies...........Copy of birth certificate...That is easy to get...picture of child and copy of birth certificate for passport, fill out papers for passport, all of this can be done without your knowledge and or permission!
