I have used both, I prefer Windows or Linux to MacOS, they simply lock things down too much for my taste as a programmer.
Windows is stronger in the business applications, Mac in the graphics ones, for casual home use there is not much difference.
With a Mac, you know all the pieces are going to work together without any tweaking on your part, not so with WIndows.
There is also a bit of a premium on the Mac hardware, but you get not to worry about the train wreck called Vista.

Mac is for people that are doing video editing, graphics design and other applications that require a high performance system.
Windows is good for people that don't want to or don't care to learn about computer science. Its pretty much dummy-proof right out the box. Easy to use and upgrade but has more system failures. Most programs are wrote for windows because its the most widely used OS.
I use windows xp MC, 2gbs of ram, 512 GeForce FX vid card, sound audigy sound card, and intel dual core processor
but you can run a dual boot system on a Mac, in other words you can boot windows on a mac, its kinda of sketchy, not too stable. I haven't personally ever run windows on a Mac but know of people that have.

Mac is probably better for the average web surfing, e-mailing, photo buff. It has fewer viruses, less problems in general than the somewhat buggy windows. I find that after 6-12 months, windows needs to be reinstalled to make it work properly. However, if you like to play video games, windows is a necessity, since it supports the vast majority of them. I've heard of a program that lets you run windows on a mac system, and if that worked it would be your best option

I use OS X, BSD and Linux, and I used to use classic Mac OS. I can use a Windows computer, but I hate it, hate it HATE it.
I would cheerfully take an OpenBSD machine with a bash terminal over the shiniest Windows box.
I use Mac OS X mostly, because I have a nice Mac font collection and OS X is generally pretty nice to use. I use the Unix end of the machine as much as the Mac end. I find it nice to have my design station running high quality open source servers. It's very convenient.

Macs are more secure and easier to use. Plugging in printers, scanners and camera is much easier and installing software is easier. You will not see any viruses on Macs either. Downside is that they are a little more expensive.
Windows is more susceptible to viruses and hackers. Computers that run Windows will cost a little bit less than Macs.
Most of the software out there you can get for either Mac or Windows and there is not cost difference on the software.
