There are cities much larger in area than Honolulu.
I always thought that Mt Isa was the largest city in the world, with an area of 42,000+ square kilometres (about 16,500 square miles).
The Wikipedia entry for Mt Isa says that there are two cities that are even larger, but I haven't checked them out to find out exactly how big they are.

honululu, in terms of area. a law in 1907 stated that the county of honolulu and the city were the same thing. this also means that the city is 2,127 square miles in size, and a population of 876,156.
In terms of population, mumbai has 12.8 million people living in a city one third the size of new york, but has a population one third as big, which means that 29,042 people live in Mumbai per sqare kilometre.
However, tokyo MIGHT have the highest population if its metropolitan area is included, and would have 35.2 million people in an area ten times the size of NYC.
