A large amount of information was passed to the allies by German soldiers who were career soldiers but were stuck with Hitler as their democratically elected leader. Intelligence was filtering through to Britain via spies located covertly in Germany who had links with the German military.
While America supported the Eugenic theories of the Nazi Party ( compulsory sterilisation of people of "genetically inferior/criminal" type had already begun in th USA before 1939), it aroused deep suspiscion in the UK. Nazi persecution didn't stop with Jews but also included Gypsies, "undesirables" and Freemasons.
The Nazis were unashamed of their actions amongst themselves but disguised the truth about "labour camps" with propaganda telling the German people and the rest of the world that all those going to these camps were being given a new, better but segregated life. The Nazis kept records as Hitler wanted to know the exact extent of his Genocide program.
Still, it is unknown exactly how many Jews died at the hands of the Nazis but realistically 6 million is a conservative estimate based around what records were recovered. The SS, Hitler and the camp Commandants tried to destroy evidence of what had taken place in the camps - torture, mutilation, medical/chemical experiments, occult/sacrificial experiments and ceremonies.
The exact number isn't worth arguing about we just have to make sure it doesn't happen again to anybody and have to remember those who died in the camps. It has to be said that a large amount of Neo-Nazis have been spreading lies that the Holocaust didn't happen. It did and they should be as ashamed of themselves as those surviving Nazis should be of their actions.

The nazi's kept hightly detailed and accurate record of the activities in the camps. In truth they were almots anal-retentive about details. Once all of the numbers were tallied up, they had, at least a rough conservative estimate of the number of people that were killed in the camps. There is every indication that there are records missing and that the numbers by be as much as 10 to 25 percent higher than has been reported. Even those that worked in the camps (guards, doctors, officers etc.) semed to think that the umbers reported were somewhat smaller than the actual numbers. The number of those that died from the time Hitler came into power has been estimated at more than 10 million.

Prior to the Wansee Conference in Jan, 1942, there were approx. 1 million Jews killed from concentration camps, starvation, executions and shootings. After the conference, the Germans kicked into high volume state-sponsored genocide up to Nov. 1944, which coincided with Himmler's order to destroy the crematoria and other death camp evidence as the Red Army approached from the East. The highest volumes of death were from Mar 1944 to Nov 1944.
As people mentioned above, the Germans' own records were used for the estimates. A train car load of evidence was presented at the Nuremburg Trials implicating the Nazis for crimes against humanity.

The Nazis left living victims and they kept meticulous records. The number, when including all victims, is over 12 million. The German citizens first to disappear into the camps were dissidents, political enemies, journalists, intellectuals, mentally ill, gypsies, etc. Generally, neighbor turned in neighbor for a variety of rationalizations.

The figure of six million is an estimation of the total amount killed during the time Hitler was in power. however , i should make it clear he did not only kill Jews , he had murdered at least 40,000 germans too. Poles in excess of a million and so on . the war claimed the lives of at least 12.000,000

After research and excavation of graves was done and also records of people missing were compiled we had that number. The nazis even kept their own records of who they murdered. I believe the number of deaths you are talking about is the record number that was compiled from the murders. Horid.

Being a methodical race, the Germans kept meticulous records of everyone they had in the concentrations camps, including photographs and film. Yes, the concentration camps were opened before WW2 broke out.

The figure is a 'Guesstimate' ...but it is based on records kept by the Germans ...to their eternal shame!.But, at least they kept records ...as opposed to to Stalinist Russia and Pol Pot and Ghengis Khan and Napoleon and China and Britain (about the potato famine in Ireland).
