The good news is there are far more of us than there are of them.
And every time I advise some poor scared or screwed up kid I know there is a reason we all show up here.
It may not be everyday but there is always one of us on hand to do our duty and lend an understanding ear to someone in need and to tell the homophobes to get stuffed in a variety of colorful, brilliantly wicked and hilariously sarcastic ways.
There is only one other way I can think to go and that is to start an MSN group that has a controlled membership.
A friend of mine did it up in the gold country.
Only members can refer new people for membership and all new members are screened.
However, we would loose the totally weird avaunt guard aspect of Answers and it's free and sometimes too Democratic format.
Some greater censorship would be appreciated from Yahoo but I doubt we will get it. I don't think they give a shi* about us which is why we are in Culture & Groups section, as another fella mentioned when aswering a different question a couple of weeks ago, instead of being in Family & Relationships section. Even Yahoo seeks to seperate us from our rightful place.
I see another option and that is to shun the ******** who write hateful messages disguised as questions in the hope that if we do not respond to them they might stop trying.
Or each and every one of us should report the abuse as harassment. If we were to flood Yahoo with complaints about these individuals they might have to take notice. We all have to register with an email so we are trackable by yahoo.
I realize that emails are free and can be changed with little effort but it's worth a try.
The other thing to do is blog it on your 360 page.
Tell how yahoo is ignoring blatant abuse, disrimination and harassment and in doing so actually encourages the offenders to continue.
We've all had a violation or an answer removed for some minor infraction of the rules yet these people get away with verbal abuse left and right. Their questions are never removed and the offenders are never santioned.
I say the squeaky wheel gets the grease, folks, so lets start making some noise.
How bout y'all?
What do you think?

Wow so much that I can't even fully convey! It has opened my eyes considerably to a whole world of LGBT people out there. It has given me a greater understanding of the issues that other people experienced. It has made me laugh, cry and entertained me better than any TV show. But the best part about it is that it has introduced me to some fantastic new friends, people who I would never have met for the simple reason that they live so far away. In fact I am going to Las Vegas with one of those friend in December...and I am so excited!

I think that we do benefit the GLBT community...by helping others with their sexual acceptance and supporting each other by just being here. Yes, there are many hate-mongers out there..but, honestly, to anyone intelligent reading their answers they even further advance our cause. I don't really think Yahoo Answers cares very much what anyone on their forum does..I don't really know why we bother to report anyone..Y/a certain doesn't seem to maintain much of a presence on this..I generally just ignore the haters anyway...they are not worth the 2 points--it's easier to scroll down. By answering we feed them.

I have been greatly helped by good people here.
I enjoy reading replies from j i c and d b d. Strangely, a reply that eased my mind most was in the religion forum. This explained how a person with terminal cancer is treated in a hospice. Gold can be found in the most unlikely places, but the LGBT forum is my favorite hunting ground.
Best wishes kedar, Rose p.

No benefit at all. It does not and will not until Yahoo moderators start paying more attention to the gay bashing that goes on. I sincerely believe that most of said moderators are homophobes themselves and give tacit approval to the rubbish posted.

Let's agree not to log onto the forum for a week. Then, the Yahoo! Answers people may grant us the privelege of a stronger method of screening the site if a portion of it is failing.

The thing about giving up is that in some ways it gives the detractors a sense of victory. Good in some way but in the long run does it just empower them to continue? It's a catch 22 situation. In my experience although not always easy to do, the best thing to do is just to report without announcing it, and hold steadfast to not encouraging since it denies the validation they crave, and just keep posting valid questions and having fun with it.
Easier said than done.

Just ignore them if you can't find it in your heart(or brain) to turn around their little words on them.
I've seen many actual questions and a few actual discussions take place here which were oddly enlightening. And no, they probably wouldn't notice. The ignorant turds would keep themselves busy and they're probably the ones giving yahoo the advertising money by clicking on any links coming up.

Gays are fortunate. We can wash off the spit.
Ignorance of the hate mongers is inbred. They're doomed.

I agree with you. Sometimes I wonder why I even look in here. I guess it's like a train wreck. You don't want to look at the hate, but somehow you have to. I guess it's good to know your enemies though.
