The Thin Red Line Saving Private Ryan The Dirty Dozen Great Escape Enemy at the Gates the sooner film makers realise that the biggest no brainer for success at the box office is a big budget modern day British ww2 film the better :-)

I've seen quite a few, and I don't know if I could compile a list of just 5, but I'll give it a shot.
1. Band of Brothers
2. Saving Private Ryan
3. Windtalkers
4. U-571
5. Memphis Belle
I know that the first one is a miniseries, not a movie, but it's still pretty good stuff. As far as other movies go, "A Bridge to Far," "The Tuskegee Airmen," "The Battle of Britain," "Kelly's Heroes," "The Longest Day," "The Battle of the Bulge," and "Midway" were all good ones. "Pearl Harbor" was good too, but it would've been 10 times better without the hour-long love story.

5. Enemy at the Gates
4. Das Boot
3. Battleground
2. Cross of Iron
#1. Saving Private Ryan
Honorable mention: Thin Red Line, Longest Day, Windtalkers, Flag of our Fathers and Go For Broke. I would've like Battle of the Bulge if it weren't for the US M-34 Tanks painted with german insignias to look like Tiger tanks....ruined the whole movie.

1. Downfall (Hitlers Last 10 days(2005)
2. Saving Private Ryan
3. Band of Brothers
4. The pianist (2002)

Downfall is a good german movie about the last few days of Hitler and the battle for berlin ,leading up to his death in the bunker...
Saving Privarte ryan the invasion of Normandy...
Band of Brothers again invasion of Normandy...
The Pianist like schindlers list is about the holocaust but from a different point of view. Its about Adrien Brody who is able to escape a ghetto and survive on the outside of the ghetto during the famous uprisings.
A Bridge Too Far is a classic about operation market garden...(1977) lots of famous actors....Sean Connery, Michael Caine, James Caan.......

It's all subjective, but here's my choices in no particular order:
"Tora, Tora, Tora", "The Enemy Below", "Saving Private Ryan", "The Big Red One", and "Twelve O'Clock High".
