Much of the loss of arctic ice is from the bottom - ocean current reaching further north and undercutting the ice. Eventually, the ice may become thin enough that it simply collapses. When that happens and with vast amounts of open water exposed to the cold dry air, a massive amount of evaporation would take place. Two things happen - the evaporative process provides cooling and that moisture laden air would start falling as snow in somewhat lower lattitudes just the way northern michigan gets lot of lake-effect snow - cold dry air coming across Lake Superior, drawing moisture out of it and dumping it on land.

Yes it will. If the current line of reasoning on how all that melt water will effect the convection of the gulf stream is true. Then we will all get bizarre weather and then freeze. This could also be attributed to the magnetic poles getting ready to shift again.
Although I highly doubt that part, all the same it is a possibility.
According to the geological studies we are way over due for another ice age anyway. this may just be a repeat of the past.

this question can go both wayz @ the same time....one after the other...lets say the polar ice caps melted...the level of the sea would rise and then most of earths land masses would go underwater...then after a considerable amount of time (years) The earth would cool possibly bringing up a new ice age due to not enough land masses accepting heat from the sun's rays. after that ice age (IN THEORY) the earth would balance out and the earth would "reboot" the theory is sound really.

Key words... Polar Meltdown... If it melts, how will an ice age occur? If anything, we will lose much of the habitat that is there. More than likely, we will experience more Tsunamis due to the increase in water which will cause higher tides and more ocean activity.

Information coming from the USGS is that it could produce a new Ice age because it will add too much fresh water to the Atlantic Conveyor and it will also lower the temperature.

yes, it is part of the earth cycle ocean, currents will slow, and global temps will drop. fill a glass of water with ice in it will that over flow when ice melts no - so oceans won't rise like they say. Are we helping the earth warm I think in some way but I believe it is also part of a cycle.

i watched a show on either tlc or discovery channel where they drilled core samples of a glacier they thought was moving. it showed 8 polar meltdowns with new ice ages following.
sometimes i wonder if we are just in a normal cycle, that we are just hypersensitive. then i think of the things that i have seen that i know effect our ecological balance.
