MARS is the god of war .This depicts spring which is the cycle of re-newed birth ,the beginning of all things.Aries is the sign that belongs to the Mars planet and therefore has all the traits of his character.This is the start of the Spring Equinox March 21st.The crystal called Red Jasper is attuned to the sign of ARIES in the zodiac.The reason he was looked upon as the a sign of Fertility is because he is a masculine sign and the first sign of the zodiac.

Well, I know that Mars is the god of war in the Roman tradition, although, I don't remember him being associated with fertility.
