It is a new Compaq computer and Lexmark 2470 all purpose printer, fax, scanner. It scans and gets everything ready to go, starts sending, then says "no dial tone". What am I missing? I have verified the other end is working fine.

DSL is your problem -- you won't get a dial tone with your DSL modem-- you have a bunch of choices but first check to see if the set up or preferences for the fax are set to DSL or Wide Band. The fax software is set for dial up, if your fax has separate line for phone -- plug in an unfiltered phone line to it. Some software assumes you only have dialup so get a dialup modem and connect the fax to it. If you have Windows XP you don't need the fax -- just activate the one in the Control Panel and you don't need the dialup modem to send or receive. Use the scanner to scan documents to fax. This should get you started.

because DSL helps the two internet and ordinary information site visitors over the comparable telephone line, all you like is a fax in a position gadget and an outgoing huge variety to deliver a fax. only ascertain that in case you have an answering gadget to coach it off in case you plan on sending or receiving a fax. the two do no longer play good with DSL.

First you will have to plug into a land line.

Two You may then need a special line to send and recieve faxes. Just like if you have telephone modem on the phone line you do not necessarily get broadband or DSL, cuz then you need the adaptors for them to recieve their signal. Same like fax.

A fax machine uses a regular phone line for starters! It wont connect thru your DSL connection, you will need to plug the fax into a regular phone jack. You will probably also need a filter for the line.

I believe you have to plug your landline phone into computer for it to work. This will be an output signal, not interferring with your DSL.
