I have 2 identical HDs in my computer, both with data on them. Is there anyway I can change them to run in RAID 0 without losing the data or OS?

My motherboard does support RAID 0. I just want to know if I can set it up without losing any data.

If I copied the data onto a third HD, could I then set up RAID 0 on the other 2? I've heard you have to have clean unformatted drives...true?

Before you do anything, check first of your motherboard supports RAID 0 configuration.

First off, you need a RAID controller to do that. If you don't have a RAID controller it's not possible.

If you do have a RAID controller, you need to configure the RAID-0 array before you install the OS. If you try to convert your current configuration to RAID-0, you'll lose everything on your machine.

I strongly advise against using RAID-0. If either drive should fail, you will irretrievably lose all data on your machine. Although hard drives are pretty reliable, your statistical chance of a failure doubles with 2 drives in a RAID-0 array.

The only way is to get a 3rd harddrive, copy all data to it, then setup the raid. Setting up a raid WILL erase all data. There is no way around it, it's how it saves data to the harddrives.

Make sure you have a RAID controller first.

It may be possible to stripe the drives if you have enough free space, but I've only done it with new setups.
