From what research I've read, most documented cases of women who do not know they are pregnant until the time of the birth of their baby, involve women with mental challenges. They may have consented to having sex, but they did it without fully knowing what the consequences could be, and in many circumstancs, they did it to be "liked" or accepted. Then again, they may have been taken advantage of. Mental challenges can range from genuine denial due to a traumatic event, having an IQ that classifies the person as being mentally challenged, or young women who have been sheltered from knowing about sex and pregnancy...they may realize something is going on, but have no idea it's a pregnancy.

For the most part, women (or girls) who claim they were unaware of their pregnancy for the full lenth of it, are usually found to be fully aware, but for one reason or another, scared to tell anyone, or embarrassed.

(And being overweight alone does not keep you from knowing that you are pregnant.)

To answer your other question, yes, you can have periods during your pregnancy. Most people who have periods during pregnancy, don't experience their periods to the extent of which they would normally, and sooner or later, there will be other signs of pregnancy.

I have a friend that went to the doctor after a softball game because she began to have really bad stomach pain..they thought her apendix had burst. Well she got there and 3 hours later had a baby girl. She was 7 months along...so it does happen its not real common. I mean her baby only weighed 4lbs and was really sick for a while but...she had no idea she was pregnant she had gained like 6 lbs but she thought it was from over eating. So It can happen just not very likely.

The bulk of all women know if they are pregnant. The unknown pregnancy occasionally occurs (usually is a woman who is told she is infertile thus she never thinks to take a pregnancy test).

Some women have some bleeding while pregnant but if you are having normal periods each month and a negative pregnancy test...you aren't pregnant.

I have heard about that. Generally, it is overweight women. They get pregnant and they start to get fatter and they just assume it is just normal weight gain. Then one day they get stomach pains and pelvic pain and they go to the hospital and give birth. I actually knew a person that this happened too. But it is extremely rare. I also knew an older overweight woman who thought she was pregnant, but her doctors kept telling her that she was going through menopause or has a tumor. Almost a year ago, she gave birth to a beautiful little girl.
