Please help! I keep all my photo's on my computer (stupid, I know!) I've been meaning to save them onto a disc, but that's another story. Anyway, our computer crashed, so my husband did a complete system recovery using a disc. Everything was wiped out...including my pictures of my children!!! I've called around and everyone tells me something different. I dont mind paying $ if it can be done, but I don't want to be ripped off! I've been told that there is a special type of equipment that only searches for "film", but that is very expensive and not a guarantee. It's just hard for me to believe that my files can't be found....lol, especially after watching so much CSI! Computer experts...please help!!!!!

Big C is correct. You not only reformatted but you then wrote over any possibilities of recovery. I feel for you. I did the same thing about a year ago. (I to kept putting off placing them on a disk) Lost all my kids and husbands pics, pictures from vacations. My husband died this past summer and now I only have a few prints.

Start retaking photos (print out the good ones) and put them on a Rewritable disk. That way you can keep adding as you go. Just make sure you label it well. (you can do a lock function so nobody accidentally erases it)

Well here is the bad and the bad news. Once you reformat, what it does is, erases or wipes everything clean and sets the disk drive back to the original computer settings.

CSI, if you know anything about computers, gets stuff off the memory of a phone cuz it has not been reformatted. In other words, a computer is thrown to the ground but the hard disk drive is still intact and can be put in another computer and read.

Now what those Search Program do that say they can find deleted files is look for programs that you have deleted. But if deleted program space is open if you have not loaded anything in that space they can get it back. By now you have already put stuff on your computer.

But the money spend would be a rip off, but if you want to spend some send it my way. That way besides getting ripped off, I will send heart warming condolences to you every week, saying the answer is just around the corner, but I may need more money. lol

Files can be found from a computer, even if the users formats the drive twice or more! As long as the person knows and you have the right program. Here are some results for file recovery software I found. Hope they help!
