Not exactly.

She was a youthful member volunteering for the Republican Barry Goldwater during his campaign for President in 1964. At that time she was 16 years old.

By the time she had gone to university she was far left and moved much further left during the time she spent at Wellesley and Yale.

Probably a Socialist or Communist secretly, but yes, she is a dyed in the wool Democrat. She may try to seem moderate, but she is true to the Democrat party and always has been. Oh and even though I disagree with her politics, she is probably the best politician in the country, on the order of Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger ("Realpolitick"). Remember Nixon the Conservative gave us the EPA, Hillary the Liberal will through the Conservatives a bone when she is President (God forbid).

Her party affiliation before running for the Senate might be irrelavent.

Before that she was the wife of a democrat president, and before that she was the wife of a democrat governor. Her party affiliation could be explained as nothing more than complimenting her husband's career.
