If you're tired your memory won't retain the info. you're trying to memorize- go to bed. If you are awake study, because you'll be able to retain the info. If you can't sleep- study- no point in trying to sleep.

Good luck if you have an exam.
Coffee will work.
For cramming, it is better to keep studying late into night than to get up early before the exam. I have tried both.
While you study, take little ten minutes breaks to close eyes and clear mind when your brain becomes slow. Eat only small amounts of simple food and water also to clear mind.
If you must arise to go to exam at 7 am, you may sleep at 3 am.
Plan to arrive 30 minutes before exam and bring your books with you to make last minute review, then after all is prepared, waste the last ten minutes to show the world you are equal to the task.
Again, Good Luck!
(PS coffee causes you to pee, so just before exam go to toilet.)

As a former college student and chronic insomniac ~ there's plenty you can do!
Tons of caffeine with lots of sugar. Mountain Dew/Coffee with lots of candy.
Keep the tv off. Don't stare at a computer screen for too long (maybe do that part right before you want to go to sleep ~ the strain on your eyes makes you super-sleepy)
Lots of Music! No classical, soft stuff. (I love it, but it's no good to study to!) Also, no music with words ~ just plain techno!
Take a few breaks, a nice shower, a stroll around the dorm...
You're set to go!

You can sleep when you are dead! Take advantage of your life, read, study, live, learn and BE SOME ONE! You are doing fine! Keep studying, you may one day make the world a better place for yourself and someone else!

Insufficient sleep is the number one cause of all illness. Rearrange your schedule to include sufficient sleep and study time. I recommend turning off the computer at least one hour before you want to sleep. The computer is one of the worst culprits for causing insomnia.

Study too much will cause the brain stress then when you want to sleep you wont be able too as the brain will be too tense and stressed to shutdown as much as it needs to.
