Jupiter is sometimes known as a gas giant. Somewhere toward the center it is speculated that there is a solid hydrogen core. It's solid only because of the immense pressure. In any case, it is not a surface is the same way that Earth has a surface.

Jupiter was probably discovered about 50,000 years ago, when people became interested in doing things other than gathering food and sitting around with their relatives. It's visible to the naked eye.
> What does the surface of Jupiter look like?
We don't know. It's covered by a murky, stormy atmosphere that we can't see through.

No one knows for sure who or when it was discovered. We know the Romans discovered and named it after their greatest god.
Jupiter is a gas giant. It consists mainly of:
~86% Hydrogen
~14% Helium
0.1% Methane
0.1% Water vapor
0.02% Ammonia
0.0002% Ethane
0.0001% Phosphine
<0.00010% Hydrogen sulfide
