The Saudi Royal Family has been planning for that day for a long time. They all know that the oil will run out at some point. And they want to be sure that they have all the proper long-term investments in place to keep their billions long after Western Money dries up.
They are also doing everything they can to ensure that the culture that existed pre-oil exists post oil. Bedouins is what they are and what they hope to alway be.
I think we should hasten their return to the desert. Don't you....

Eliminating the need for oil is the only true way to fight terrorism. Terrorists are funded by oil money. Without the oil, no more money. Other than oil and terrorism, I don't know what else the middle east has to offer. If anyone knows what else they export, that could support them, please post it.

C'mon get a clue! WE do not use that much from the Middle East!
11% comes from VENEZUELA!!!!
Answer to your question is the Middle East wouldn't notice!-If demand backed off, Sa'udi Arabia would just curb production!
But, that is a Fantasy, because China and Europe would just grab more!

They would use the oil to become the strongest economical nations in the world. While we figure out how to save the planet, which we do not really care about, but while we said we do, cutting down on everything, they would use and sell their oil to other countries. The US would become a weak economical, and millitary-wise useless nation...... So let's not say no to oil. Doing so would only make the price go down, and allow other countries to get much richer. We don't want that, do we?

Nothing much.. they'll just sell it to other less developed countries. Oh, the price will drop some from less demand, but others will step in to take advantege of this bargain oil.

If it were up to me....I would form a cartel of grain bearing nations, and hijack the cost of grain per bushel, kind of like OPEC did with the price of oil per barrel. When they stock piled enough grain, after suffering through years of RIDICULOUS prices for a loaf of bread, I would hope that the cartel of grain bearing nations would slow production, just to keep the cost of grain per bushel WAY TOO HIGH. After all, turn about is fair play, right?

They would need to look for another source of income, but the pro's are so much better then the con's. I like the Montana's govonor idea of: reducing 1 billion barrels of oil per year and creating 5.5 billion barrels of domestically produced fuel source for our needs.

I am thinking of starting a Focus Group to study and address this topic - so I will be very interested in reading the answers to your question. (In your answer to my question, you insinuated that emailing the vice president would be unproductive - so you must believe that is how our democracy works - NO ACCOUNTABILITY).
