When I was about 12 and hadn't started my period I told my mum I needed to see a doctor because of chest pains. As it happened, she couldnt take me so my dad did! I was diagnosed with mastitis (the doctor sniggered when he told my red faced dad that's what it was). I went home and told everyone I had moustache-itis! I've never lived it down!
I've just turned 45 and noticed more senstivity around my left nipple and strangely, the same kind of lumpy fatty tissue-y feeling around it. Was worried cos my period was also late and was having sharp breast pain if it was accidentally touched.
I then started to think I was menopausal but today I've come on, the sensitivity has gone, the lumpiness has gone too. I think it's just I'm getting older, my body is changing it's warning and pre-menstrual signs.
I was 39 when I fell pregnant first and only time. I was a big DIY-er and was fully stretched at the top of a ladder painting a ceiling when I felt too tired to continue (so NOT me)! A few weeks leading up to that I'd been complaining of feeling like someone had punched me in the chest and it was tightening....or felt like muscle strain. Of course I found out weeks later, I was actually pregant....but I didn't recognise the symptoms, as I'd never been before. But I think they are mastitis, cos is it a swelling and tendersness in the boobs for any such reason.
Of course I'm assuming the pain comes and then goes after a while (maybe a few days), but if it's constant, get it checked out by a doctor.

Mastitis is bloody painful. I have had it 3 times, after the birth of my babies. It is inflammation of the breast, you may get a hot spot which looks red and you may also have a temperature, it can make you feel really lousy. A wonderful cure for mastitis (which I don't believe you have, by the way) is cabbage leaves, I found savoy the best, tucked into your bra, it does wonders! I think you are just suffering from hormonal changes at the time of your period and as the pains are for such a short period of time, I really wouldn't worry. If, however, you notice puckering, unusual leakage or other symtoms that are uncommon for you, pop along to the G.P and get yourself checked out. Good health and don't worry.

Acutally is is called mastitis. Mastitis means that the breast is inflamed, and there is swelling, redness, tenderness and pain. You need to talk to doc if he can prescribe you harmful antibiotics if it bothers you a lot. A breast infection can become a breast abscess that requires surgical draining, but this can almost always be prevented by treating mastitis promptly. So it is important that you check on this problem with a health care provider. Do not take any other advice other then real docs and face to face prefferably. Good luck!

Mastitis is an inflammation of the mammary gland(the breast or udder) One may have this condition due to pregnancy and lactation. or even due to cycle period. It may last for a few seconds and the pain will go away. During this condition the breast may get reddish ,warm and tender. But if this condition occurs very often and lasts very long I would consult a doctor.

Mastitis is an inflammation or infection of the breast. It is very painful and is usually accompanied by fever, red streaks on the breast, swelling of the breast and the breast will feel hot to the touch. It is often associated with breastfeeding, but not always.

I had mastitis twice when I was nursing my son...it is more than an inflammation of the breast. It is when a blocked duct becomes infected. Mastitis is very painful for a couple of days. You may have serious flu like sympoms..I have never been so sick! Major chills, fever, fatigue...just awful.

You probably don't heve mastitis, pains in the boob every now and then are pretty normal.

Mastitis is inflammation of the breast. It can happen any time, but is more common during pregnancy/lactation.

If you have it, your breast will be warm, swollen, red and VERY tender. The pain would last longer than a couple of seconds.

You may have breast tenderness because of hormones and your cycle.

If it lasts only a few seconds, I wouldn't worry about it.

Mastitis. "Itis" is an inflammation, usually an infection. If the pains only last a couple of seconds, it would not be mastitis, I don't think. A milk duct can get blocked, then pressure builds up, and infection can set in. Usually a woman won't get mastitis until nursing.

Mastitus usually comes when your pregnant and your milk ducts are clogged. My sister just had a baby and she had it. Cold compress will help the swelling. Warm showers help your milk drop. When you have mastitus you will know it. It will hurt very bad. Swelling and fever in the breast. Hope this helps.

Mastitis means that the breast is inflamed, and there is swelling, redness, tenderness and pain. There may be an infection, so it is wise to consult your health-care provider to determine whether or not an antibiotic is necessary.
