Then how do you "serve your time?" after school that same day? or early the next morning? How long is it, usually?

Sometimes its during lunch, sometimes its after school. The teacher will tell you when you have to "serve" your time. If I were you, I wouldn't worry about it unless you think you're a serious troublemaker.

You will either be assigned lunch detention which is however long lunch is. Then there is AM and PM detention which lasts about 1 hour the most extreme is Saturday detention which lasts anywhere from 4-8 hours. If you are served with lunch detention or PM detention you are expected to do it the same day it was assigned. AM detention is the next morning unless it is the weekend. Saturday detention is the next Saturday to the assigned date.

I had to serve detention for 1 hour early the next morning (7 A.M.). It really depends on the policy of your school, each school has different policies in regards to this issue.

I never gotten a regular detention before. I've gotten lunch detentions [where i had to go and eat lunch with the teacher, ew].....and also O.S.S. {out of school suspension} for 2 days for beating the crap out of some kid.

At my school, if you do get detention, you generally serve your detention within the week you get it. You stay afterschool from 2:45- 3:30.

hope i've helped.

In my school, they had detention over the break and lunch periods so kids weren't walking home in the dark. In my friend's school, they had detention the following day after school to allow parents time to be informed that their child is being kept behind.

When I was in high school it was All day detention. you would have to go to a classroom and sit. You could not read or do homework (I thought that was dumb). For something very mild it was 1 hour after school but most was All day.

ask around. Serve during school if u are willing to catch up with all the make up work. Waking up early would just make everything worse lol. Get your sleep, and after school would probably be the smartest thing since you can just do ur h/w in there or w/e.. and don't do w/e you did again lol.

It's for about 2 hours afterschool if you're in highschool. You can get your homework done then. You just sit there quietly and go about your business.
