The original Japanese versions of many of the US horror remakes are very disturbing.
Ringu (the Ring), and Ju-on (the Grudge) were both very scary even with subtitles.
Personally I really like the animated movie Perfect Blue (also Japanese but available dubbed to English).
The main character is a pop singer who decides to become an actress. As she starts doing an edgier TV roll to prove she is not a piece of fluff, a former fan starts killing off members of the film crew who have "dirtied" her pristine image.
The TV director loves the publicity the stalker is causing and starts incorporating the murders into the TV show. That's when the young actress start coming unglued and having trouble distinguishing fantasy from fiction.
Also, for really scary you cannot beat Battlefield Earth. Just the thought of ever having to watch that again gives me nightmares *wink*.

The scariest movie in history would probably be The Exorcist.... the scariest movie in my opinion Hostel

The Exorcist didnt scare me at all.
but The Shinning scares me everytime i watch it.

most critics say The Exorcist, I think so too.
But scary is different for everyone.
For some people its the supernatural, some its monsters and for some its reality based or slasher horror.
