I do not know what diagram you mean.
Is the statement "The sun is not star" a statement that you want to test or one that you want to propose as true?

Do you ask: "In order to find if the statement is true or false, is it sufficient to test it's opposite?" ?

If so, then in this case it may be, if you ensure that your definition partition the universe:

The definition of sun must be exclusive: an object either is the sun, or is not the sun. If your definition allows an object to be the sun AND not the sun then the test cannot work (because the statement could be both true and false).

The definition of star is exclusive: if an object is a star, then it cannot be "not a star".

AND if you define the opposite as

"The sun is a star".
If this statement is true, then the original statement is false (and vice-versa).

---

A better test is the contrapositive:

If it is a star, then it is not the sun.

If this statement is false, then the original statement is also false.

What?

The Sun is a star. Perhaps you could rephrase your question and try it again in English.
