Well, the telescope itself did not make any discoveries.

A newton telescope is a telescope where the objective (main "lens") is a parabolic mirror which focuses an image just in front of an eyepiece (used to inspect this image).

It was invented by Isaac Newton. Many amateur astronomers have this type of telescope.

Most professional telescopes (including the Hubble telescope in space) are not of this type (the newton telescope requires a tube of a length equal to the focal distance of the mirror). They use other combinations of lenses and mirrors which give them greater flexibility or better correction of distortion.
