I think a child should have a choice to get them pierced and when.
I was 13 when I got mine pierced then shortly after I got them double pierced, which subsequently I never wear earrings in my second hole afterwords because it was too much of a hassle.
My niece was 5 when she got hers pierced and I think that is an appropriate age for piercing. It was really funny when she finally did go through the live changing event she was so excited and was counting down the days! She even held the hand of another child after she got her ears pierced to say that they would be "OK", and that the "big loud gun wasn't so bad".

I did both my daughters ears after they had their first immunizations, which was about 2 1/2 months, they have never played with them and I have never had a problem with them! I worked somewhere where they pierced ears and it was easier for a baby then for a 5 year old often times they would get one done and not want the other one done! The younger they are the less apt they are to play and fiddle with them! And if they choose not to wear earrings as they get older then you know thats their choice! My girls love theirs being done and I never have a problem changing their earrings! And it does help to differentiate whether or not your baby is a boy or a girl. I hated it when someone told me "aww what a cute little boy" even when they were dressed in PINK!

I got my ears pierced before I left the hospital, but it is a cultural thing. The younger the better. The older the more it's them wanting the piercing because their friends have it.

When they're like...at least 4 months old. You wouldn't want your 13 year old to be in pain!! She's already gotta go through "teenage years"...give her a break by getting her ears pierced around like 4 months of age!!!

I think children should get them done when they are under the age of 5 because they will not have a tendency to take them off as much and because when they are like 6 they will not have to worry about them closing up. They will also not really remember the pain. I got mine done when I was four and do not remember much of it. I hope this helps.

i think that it is mean to do it to babies. they wont be able to tell you if it hurts. sure then they wont remember the pain...but while they have the pain how will they ask for something to help it stop? and what if when they get older they wish they never had pierced ears? they obviously wont be able to take care of the piercing theirselves when they are a baby...do you really want this?
i think that a child should get their ears pierced when they feel ready. i went to get them pierced and chickened out a few times...then i decided i really wanted them and that i was ready during second grade.
i dont think it really matters when as long as the child really wants it and is willing to have pain and to take care of it.

either when they're really young so they can't remember, or when they are like at least 9 because i had my ears pierced at 4 or 5 and i kept on scratching at them and they closed up and then i had to get them pierced again in fifth grade

I say the earlier the better. Most people (stores or doctors) won't do it until the child is 3 months old and the child has to have all their shots in order to get it done (doctors do this, i don't know about stores). I wouldn't wait to long or your child would do what I did, my cousin went ahead of me and when it was my turn, I bolted out of the store. I was about 7 years old and hated the entire experience.

i think they should get them pierced when their old enough to make the decision themselves. my mom pierced my ears when i was 1 but i almost never wear earings, i hate them. so id say they should pierce their ears whenever they choose they want to.

If you are ready to take care of the responsiblity you can get them done as young as you want. I was 2 when my parents had my first set done, and 13 when I decided that I wanted another set. My sister had my niece's done when she just a couple of months.
