I mean, about sixty percent of the time, you see people saying, "too" when they mean "to"; it can't be typos for all of them. Some people need to go back to school.

I don't have any idea...lack of attention in school? Lack of GOOD education? Lack of a good teacher? Lack of teaching grammar in school?

How about the proliferation of people using "then" for "than"?

How about people using "supposebly" for "supposedly"?

How about our idiot president and his advisors for the usage of "nuclular" instead of "nuclear"?

I look at these people as idiots.....ignorant.

There is a tremendous decline in intelligence and/or caring in this country for education, and these same people will sit and moan and groan about how jobs, steel, good/services, tech/customer-support, etc etc etc are going overseas.

The United States is falling behind BIG time, yet people still think we are on top.....we are on top ONLY because of our military.....we are NOT on top technologically speaking, and that's scary. It's because we are pumping out kids that don't give a crap....teachers that have no business in front of a classroom.....substandard parents...substandard kids....substandard educational system.

Some years ago I went to the Sylvan Learning center to devote some time helping kids with math and science. I'm a physicist....I'm very good at explaining things (my apologies for blowing my horn here, but I DO have a talent for teaching) but they did not want me because I did not have a teaching certificate. No matter that I can teach and solve any algebra problem you throw at me......as well as trig and arithmetic and so on....but I HAD to have that certificate. That certificate means nothing. I have WAY more education than the folks currently teaching these subjects...but our education won't recognize me as 'knowing anything' because I don't have that piece of paper.

That aside....our education system is a travesty. It's shameful to say the LEAST. It permeates everything from "to" and "too", to "then" and "than" to 2+2, to imaginary numbers. People from other countries can think circles around us. Our youth is far more interested in sniffing bic lighter fumes and watching 23 hours of tv/video games than taking their up-coming adult life seriously.

We deserve what we are getting, and while all this is taking place we are forgetting who the King of kings is......Jesus.

I homeschool my three older children (K-4). When we had a lesson about the use of to,too and two they had problems. I honestly think it's plain old laziness. Because after that if they turned in a paper with the improper usage of the words I would throw it away and expect them to redo the paper. Needless to say they now double check everything. By the way that rule applies with any paper with incorrect usage of capital letters and punctuation.

They didn't pay attention in English class.

A better question could be, why are there so many illiterate people in the US? How can teachers even allow them to be promoted from grade to grade? I know a 34 year old who can hardly read. He's able to drive though.

That annoys me as well! Some people must have slept through 5th grade English class.
While we're on the subject...is it just me, or is anyone else tired of seeing people use apostrophes to pluralize everyday words??!! Hello...multiples and possession are two different things. (Or should I say thing's)? LOL.

The same reason why people don't know when to use me and I in a sentence. Drives me nuts too!

I totally agree with you - but, it is kind of confusing sometimes whether to put "to" or "too" (the later "too" meaning "also") - it can be confusing at times - go easy.
