My guidance counselor asked me how long it takes me to do all of my homework on average. How long should it take me on average anyway? I'm only a freshman in highschool.

The guidance counselor was getting to know the freshman and everyone got an interview. I'm an honors student in Concord Highschool in Delaware. It was right after we took the SATs and I didn't really mind it and I got a pretty low score. A 134? I guess that's pretty bad. I take time between homeworks. Therefore it makes me a little slower to get it all completed. How long should it take me to do my homework?

There are many different possible reasons. If you have been having trouble getting all your work done the counselor might be trying to help you find the reason. Or, perhaps there has been complaints about the amount of homework by one or more teachers and the counselor is trying to find out if there is validity in the complaints. If it is important for you to know, ask the guidance counselor (in a polit way, of course).

Were you the one who requested to speak to the counselor, or was this something put upon you by a teacher or parent? If it's the latter, chances are they suspect something is going on that's preventing you from being a better student. Your counselor is just trying to get an idea of what that is.

As for how long it SHOULD take, the rule of thumb for what teachers should be assigning is 10 minutes per grade level. Since you're in 9th grade, 90 minutes (hour and a half) would be reasonable. Not all teachers adhere to this rule of thumb, and not every student is the same. Just be up front with the counselor- if you're taking an abnormally long or short amount of time to do your work, it could be an indication that you need some enrichment or remediation. Good luck!

well, in order for them to know if you need special attention in any areas. If you want the proper help to fix any mental disability's that you may have, You should be honest. know mental disability can range from just being slow because your lazy or a real disability that would need medical attention. Witch can only be determined by a few tests. I would not know how much time it should take you as my generation had diff.. standards of testing and teaching. i would say 1 to 2 hours is common but it depends on the work load.

What are they really asking? Are they wanting to know if the work load is too much or too little for you? If so then they might be thinking of moving you to a different level of class---I think there is some underlying reason for them asking you this, you might want to come right out and ask them, "Why?"

It depends what kind of counselor you have ,is she /he an educational counselor ?If so they write reports on your progress to gauge and analyse where you are in the class situation. It also helps them to understand how you will cope with exams etc.If you have difficulties they will help you without you feeling pressurised.
