Robin Hood: Men In Tights fits into the spoof genre very well also. It fits into the spoof genre very well because it ridicules every aspect of the well-known Robin Hood legend.
The plot of this movie is like every other Robin Hood book or movie except with hilarious comedy mixed in. In this movie, Robin acquires the key to Maid Marian's "heart", and he sets out with his group of merry men to defeat the Sheriff of Nottingham.
Almost all of the spoofs in this movie make fun of past Robin Hood movies or books. In the very first scene this movie starts similar to other Robin Hood movies with the Sheriff's men shooting burning arrows at a village. Except in this movie, the villagers get mad because they say in every movie their village gets burned down. Another easily recognizable spoof is when during Robin's long speeches the listeners fall asleep. One other spoof that can be recognized by anyone who has seen or read anything about Robin Hood is his amazing archery ability. In this movie, this ability is exaggerated by arrows being guided mysteriously through crowds of people to the target.
Some of the comedy of the movie in this movie is not related to the Robin Hood legend. Much of the comedy involves singing and dancing. One scene near the beginning of the movie involves some men in tights rapping the story of Robin's journey. In another scene, Robin's men are singing are singing about the tights they wear. In one other scene, Robin is singing a love song to Marian which gathers an audience of merry men.
There was only one spoof that we found throughout this movie that was not related to a Robin Hood movie or legend. The spoof that we found was making fun of 20th Century Fox. In the spoof Robin goes to 12th Century Fox to send a message to his merry men with a fox.
This movie makes the top 5 list in the spoof genre because of the well-known plot mixed with hilarious spoof comedy. This movie has an excellent balance of all types of comedy throughout the movie and ends in true spoof fashion with the key to Marian's "heart" not being the correct key.

Some good moments, but not one of Mel Brooks best. Too bad it could't have been made in the 70's with his stock players, Gene Wilder, Madeline Kahn, Marty Feldman and Cloris Leachman, . Still a funny pic and a good way to spend a couple of hours
