Other artist/illustrators that also fall into the fantasy genre include Boris Vallejo, British Artist Richard Burns and Chris Archilleos.

There are many 'Old Masters' that have influenced this type of art including Bruegel, Hieronymus Bosch and latterly Richard Dadd.

Hope this helps.

fantasy is a subgenre of fantasy fiction that is set in invented or parallel worlds. Built upon the platform of a diverse body of works in the already very popular fantasy genre.
Fantasy is a genre of art that uses magic and other supernatural forms as a primary element of plot, theme, or setting. The genre is generally distinguished from science fiction and horror by overall look, feel, and theme of the individual work, though there is a great deal of overlap between the three (collectively known as speculative fiction). In its broadest sense, fantasy comprises works by many writers, artists, filmmakers, and musicians, from ancient myths and legends to many recent works embraced by a wide audience today.

Fantasy creates alternate reality. All fantasy consists in some way a picture of art wether this be of legendary creatures and people. Angels. Places. Objects and so on.

It's basically pictures of dragons and knights and things. I remember this great book called "Lightship" by a guy called Jim Burns that had a lot of fantasy art in it.
Basically if the picture would not look out of place on the cover of a heavy metal album or like it might be of something from Lord Of The Rings then it is fantasy art.

Fantasy is a way of expressing an imaginary world. The creator of this 'world' my use art as in a graphic to express this. This includes fiction of all types where known reality is suspended. While science fiction and mythical creatures may be obvious forms it also covers any form of imagery including comics. It is also possible to consider that some of Picasso's works may therefore be fantasy, or the expression of his fantasies through his art.
