help on second life?

Does it cost real money to buy land on second life? because it says its $9 a month and something but it says you haqve to pay like 100 dollars if you buy a regeon???!!!! Oh and does anyone have a free acount i can have? (oh and what is a regon?)

some places ya it does cost real money. and it sucks, my friend paid 2000US dollars for 2 island sims 0-0 omg. i pay 2000L for my land though, in Kuwol. im online now, my name is Tani Lock ^_^ look me up.
