I am taking a copy-editing class and can't figure out what is wrong with these sentenes (I know I just asked about one before haha). The first one is:

"Luck has nothing to do with it," Marlow said.

"Then he said, 'Don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes."

It doesn't take long to drive from Washington D.C. to Baltimore.

um...it doesnt look like there's anything wrong with those sentences. (except the forgotten single close quotation mark in the second one)

"Luck has nothing to do with it," Marlow said. The comma should come after the quote.

"Then he said, 'Don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes." Again the quotes are wrong. No quotation mark before Then. Quotation before Don't

It doesn't take long to drive from Washington D.C. to Baltimore. Comma after Washington and DC is just that, not D.C.

1) No comma in the first sentence.
2) No first single quotation in the 2nd sentence
3) Place comma between Washington & D.C.

What's next?! LOL

I am an English teacher and I don't see any errors, really.

However, someone who is really picky could argue that certain conventions have not been followed very strictly.

Sentence 1: The comma should be outside of the quotation marks as the speaker may have ended the sentence after "it". Alternatively, you could have "Marlow said" first and then end the sentence with a period within the quotes.

Sentence 2: Comma after "Then".

Sentence 3: Comma after Washington.

"Luck has nothing to do with it" Marlow said. (said Marlow would be better)

Then he said "Don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes." (He then said would be better)

It doesn't take long to drive from Washington DC to Baltimore. (i would probably change the sentence to - It doesnt take a long time to drive from Washington DC to Baltimore)

1.marlow said, would come first.
2.then HE said. is not right. never say he said. put the name there.
And in 3. doesn't should be differint. I belive it would be "will not" or "should not" instead.
$. i know my grammer is not correct however the answers are right.

Well your original sentence - you spelled "Sentences" wrong.
I don't know what your getting at in asking this question. I don't see anything wrong with the sentences - their just sentences.
