That's funny, call me a victim of untrue stereotype but i couldn't imagine Canadian Yahoo Answers being particularly aggressive! It seems to me like UK Answers is quite extremist, especially in the religious or political sections, but i haven't looked at the US site so maybe it takes things to a whole new level. Answering whether UK is less bigoted than the US i couldn't say. Maybe i's just that we're less obvious about it, i don't know.

Probably because there aren't as many people on the UK/Ireland page as there are on the U.S. page. And, it also could be because nobody is jumping down our throats here. The Americans always have to keep their guard up because they are ALWAYS being criticised.

We're citizens, not subjects, so inherently we are freer to express our opinions as we are not vassal to a Sovereign, rather the State is responsible to us, the People. There was a war some hundreds of years ago to afford this freedom and break the yoke the British are subjugated to.

Could be both reasons you cite are correct. I think Americans and Canadians are probably just more vocal in expressing themselves. Americans in particular are pretty fed up with the political scene.

It's a cultural difference. American patriotism is simply about self centred ignorance.

The UK has history, experience, and long exposure to all aspects of World and European culture. I dig things up in my garden far older than the USA, where social immaturity, and general unworldliness prevails. Some US states are almost medieval in attitude, with educational standards low, and world awareness almost non-existent.

It's just a culture thing. I agree the Americans are so defensive, it makes you wonder if they are in fact slightly paranoid!
