Cruel to keep exotics?

Question

Do you think it is cruel to keep exotics/reptiles as pets? My ex thought so which is one of the main reasons we broke up. I keep reptiles. I also have domestic pets.

Reptiles are not what I personally would consider 'exotic'. Monkeys, lions, tigers, all those kinds of animals-- animals you generally can't just go buy and have at home- are what I consider exotic. I don't consider keeping reptiles cruel, as long as they are captive bred, but I do consider some animals, like tigers, etc, big cats, giant tortoises, etc. possibly cruel. The needs are not easily met.

i think exotics are best left wild if at all possible, though i do like critters, especially the exotic cats (bobcats, cougers, tigers etc.) i still believe they are happier in the wild, best observed from a distance...sometime the best way to love a creature is to leave it alone...though you already have some as pets and they need to remain as pets...i personally would not take something from the wild into captivity for my own personal pleasure/entertainment...doing that smacks of a total lack of respect for the life of that creature....

Let me start by saying I've had reptiles as pets and see nothing wrong with it as long as they get what they need.

Reptiles are DUMB. As long as they are fed, watered, get some exercise and enclosures cleaned they need nothing else in life.
In the wild all they do is eat, sleep and look for the next meal.

i dont think is cruel if you treat them well, i have adopted my parrots from homes where they werent wanted so i think they are better off with me.
